The University of Wyoming football team will begin its 2025 season on Thursday, August 28, against the University of Akron at InfoCision Stadium, marking the first-ever meeting between the two teams, 7220 Sports reports.

Originally scheduled for the following Saturday, the game’s move to Thursday comes without an official explanation from the school.

Start times for the game and other matchups during the season are yet to be announced.

Following the season opener, Wyoming’s home schedule will begin on September 6 with a game against Northern Iowa. The Cowboys will then host longtime rival Utah on September 13 in Laramie before concluding their non-conference slate with a trip to Colorado on September 20.

The Cowboys’ Mountain West home games will include matchups against Nevada, San Jose State, UNLV, and Colorado State, with the latter being a part of the annual Border War rivalry. The exact dates for these games are still to be determined, but they will all be held at War Memorial Stadium.

As part of their future non-conference schedule, Wyoming will face Akron again in 2028, with other notable matchups, including games against UConn, North Texas, and Colorado State in the coming seasons.

Additionally, spring football for the Cowboys is set to begin on March 25.
