A plane operated by Air Busan Co. experienced a fire on its tail Tuesday at Gimhae International Airport, causing a rapid evacuation of all passengers and crew Bloomberg reports, citing Yonhap News Agency.
The incident occurred as the aircraft was preparing for takeoff to Hong Kong, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency.
The report stated that some 169 passengers and seven crew members were on board at the time of the incident. All individuals were successfully evacuated, and thankfully, no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
This incident comes just a month after a devastating crash involving a Jeju Air Co. plane on December 29. That crash, which claimed the lives of nearly all passengers and crew, was the worst aviation accident in South Korean history and triggered widespread scrutiny of the country’s airline safety standards and airport facilities.
