The Wyoming Cowboys faced a challenging road contest on Saturday evening, falling to San Jose State 67–58 in a game defined by tough defense and cold shooting, Oil City News reports.

Despite heading into the matchup as the conference leader in 3-point shooting, Wyoming struggled offensively, shooting just 33% from the field and 19% from beyond the arc — their lowest 3-point percentage of the season.

“It is pretty simple: You can’t have everyone have their worst shooting night on the same night,” Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks said. “We knew they were a good individual defensive team, and our guards weren’t able to get in the paint and by guys. You have to catch a rhythm early. Tough players play and tough players win.”

Scottie Ebube led the Cowboys with a career-high 22 points, marking just his second double-digit performance of the season. Guard Obi Agbim, who had been a consistent scorer this season, was held to 7 points, his first game below double figures. However, Agbim still contributed with six assists. Oleg Kojenets and Dontaie Allen each added 6 points.

The Cowboys found themselves trailing early, with turnovers stalling their offense. San Jose State capitalized, taking an 11–6 lead midway through the first half. Wyoming managed to gain some momentum when Ebube’s dunk and layup gave them a 16–15 lead with five minutes left in the half.

However, a 6–0 run by the Spartans put them back in control, and Wyoming was held scoreless in the final three minutes of the half, trailing 23–19 at the break.

The Cowboys made several pushes to close the gap in the second half, cutting the Spartans’ lead to just one point multiple times. An Agbim 3-pointer brought Wyoming within one possession, but a 7–0 run by San Jose State stretched their lead to double digits.

The Spartans continued to stifle Wyoming’s offense and held a 14-point advantage late in the game. Despite efforts to rally, the Cowboys were unable to overcome the deficit.
