The Kansas City Chiefs are one step closer to NFL history, securing their spot in Super Bowl LVIII after a nail-biting 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game, Al Jazeera reports.

The win sets up a highly anticipated rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles, who dominated the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship game.

In a clash of titans between quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, the Chiefs emerged victorious after a back-and-forth battle that had fans on the edge of their seats. Mahomes orchestrated a key fourth-quarter drive, punctuated by a 10-yard rushing touchdown and a subsequent two-point conversion, putting the Chiefs ahead 29-22. The Bills’ Allen responded with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel, tying the game. But ultimately, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s 35-yard field goal proved decisive, sealing the victory as Kansas City’s defense held firm in the closing moments.

The Chiefs’ triumph continues their post-season dominance over the Bills, eliminating them for the fourth time in the last five years, including twice in the conference championship. The Bills haven’t reached the Super Bowl since 1993, a drought that Chiefs fans were happy to extend.

The victory was celebrated not only by the team, but also by a special guest, pop superstar Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce. Swift, a 14-time Grammy Award winner, was seen cheering passionately from the stands at Arrowhead Stadium. As confetti rained down after the final whistle, she and Kelce shared a celebratory kiss on the field. She also shared hugs with Chiefs coach Andy Reid, Kelce’s mother, Donna, and a crowd of fans who stayed long after the game concluded.

Swift is expected to be in New Orleans with her celebrity friends when the Chiefs attempt to win their third consecutive Lombardi Trophy, an unprecedented feat.

While the Chiefs celebrated their hard-fought victory, the Eagles were making a statement of their own in Philadelphia. Their explosive ground game, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley, overwhelmed the Washington Commanders. Hurts and Barkley each rushed for three touchdowns, while rookie running back Will Shipley added another, and Hurts also threw for one touchdown as the Eagles racked up a record-setting 55 points in the NFC Championship game.

The Eagles’ dominant performance earned them a chance to avenge their 2023 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, setting the stage for an epic championship clash.

Despite the euphoria of reaching the Super Bowl, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley warned that the team was “not satisfied” with just the conference title.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid, meanwhile, emphasized the need to stay focused amidst the hype surrounding his team’s “three-peat” bid.
