Laramie County Library Enthusiastic About Role in Wyoming Book Awards
The Wyoming Book Awards, a state-wide initiative sponsored by the Wyoming Library Association and the Wyoming State Literacy Association, allows young readers across the state to select their favorite books, Wyoming News Now reports.
The awards program has three categories: the Buckaroo Book Award (Kindergarten to Third Grade), the Indian Paintbrush Book Award (Fourth to Sixth Grade), and the Soaring Eagle Book Award (Seventh to Twelfth Grade).
Laramie County Library plays an active role in facilitating the program, according to Jesse Dorst, the library’s Manager of Community & Media Relations. Dorst describes the library as the “facilitator” for the program, helping to connect local youth with the opportunity to participate.
“This is a way to give Wyoming-specific recognition to the books that resonate with kids in Wyoming,” Dorst explained. “It’s especially encouraging for kids in the K-3 age range, helping them engage with reading and literature at a deeper level.”
Promoting literacy among youth is central to the Laramie County Library’s mission, and Dorst emphasized that the library is thrilled to be involved in any partnership that supports reading initiatives.
“Any partnerships that help promote reading, we’re all for them,” he said. “We’re really excited to promote this one and make it easier for people to get involved.”
To participate in the Wyoming Book Awards, readers must read three books from the ten nominees in their grade category and submit their votes by March 15, which marks the deadline for the awards. Interested participants can sign up through Beanstack at the Laramie County Library. For those who need assistance, the library is available to help get started.
