The 153rd Airlift Wing of the Wyoming Air National Guard participated in Operation Toy Drop for the first time in its history, marking a significant milestone for the unit, US Department of Defense reports.

The event took place from December 9 to December 14, 2024, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and saw the wing’s involvement in a key charitable military operation.

Operation Toy Drop, an annual event established in 1998 by US Army Staff Sgt. Randy Oler, is a unique blend of military training and charitable giving. The event takes place at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, and allows paratroopers to donate toys to local communities while receiving the opportunity to earn foreign jump wings by jumping alongside international jumpmasters.

During this year’s event, Army units reached out to the Wyoming Air Guard for assistance, and the 153rd responded by providing two C-130 aircraft along with crews for the operation. These aircraft played a crucial role in transporting jumpers, including both US and international paratroopers from 14 partner nations, who participated in parachute jumps with toys packed in their backpacks.

The operation was not only a military training exercise but also aimed to foster international partnerships while supporting the local community. Toys for Tots, a national charity organization, was a key partner in the event, collecting and distributing toys to underprivileged children during the holiday season.

Over 4,000 jumpers participated in the week-long event, making jumps at Fort Liberty. These jumps were also coordinated with community relations activities throughout the week, ensuring that the charitable aspect of the operation was felt by the wider public.

The partnership between US Army units, international paratroopers, and local organizations underscores the spirit of giving and collaboration, with a strong focus on military training while making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need.
