Lindsey Stewart, a trailblazing student in Central Wyoming College’s (CWC) Regenerative Farming program, has been recognized as the college’s Student of the Year for her outstanding achievements and dedication to her field of study, County 10 reports.

Stewart, who discovered CWC in 2022 through a flyer at a local coffee shop, is set to graduate this spring as the first-ever graduate of the program.

“Lindsey is a perfect example of Central Wyoming College’s mission in action,” said Coralina Daly, CWC’s Vice President for Student Affairs. “She is applying what she has learned in her program directly for community benefit.”

Stewart manages the Fremont Local Market, an indoor farmer’s market, where she connects with local producers and customers, promoting the value of small-scale farming.

“It is inspiring to see what our producers put into their products,” Stewart said. “The care that goes into growing the veggies, fruit, and flowers sold at the market is really beautiful.”

Ethan Page, CWC’s Instructor of Local Food and Agriculture, commended Stewart’s journey, describing her as “a quiet, unassuming part of our crop production practicum class” who quickly became “a consistent, enthusiastic, hard-working presence on the farm.”

Stewart credits the hands-on crop practicum classes as her favorite part of the program. From seed to harvest, she gained a deep appreciation for the labor and dedication involved in farming, which has enhanced her ability to communicate the value of local produce to consumers.

“Lindsey is a perfect example of what our program is trying to accomplish: developing food system leaders,” Page said.

He also noted her consistent academic excellence.

Despite not growing up on a farm or ranch, Stewart is eager to pursue a career as a first-generation farmer. After earning her degree this spring, she plans to continue her education at CWC by enrolling in the Bachelor of Applied Science program with a focus on Agricultural Leadership.
