Bollywood Star Saif Ali Khan Injured in Home Invasion, Undergoes Surgery
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering after suffering stab injuries during a home invasion at his residence in Mumbai early Thursday morning, Reuters reports.
The 54-year-old star, son of cricket legend Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, was undergoing surgery for his injuries but is now considered out of danger, according to police officials.
Earlier, a hospital official, Niraj Uttamani, chief operating officer, told news agency ANI that Khan was undergoing surgery. Uttamani also revealed that a small foreign object had been found near Khan’s spine. The actor was admitted to the hospital around 3:30 a.m.
Khan, one of India’s most popular and bankable film stars with over 70 film and television credits to his name, resides in a Bandra apartment with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children. Representatives for Kareena Kapoor Khan confirmed the burglary attempt and that Saif was undergoing a procedure, adding that “The rest of the family is doing fine.”
A female employee at their home was also reportedly attacked and is receiving treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively searching for the perpetrator.
The attack has sparked outrage and calls for increased security measures in Mumbai. Prominent figures, including film stars and opposition leaders, have expressed concern about the vulnerability of even high-profile individuals.
Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also voiced her concern about the perceived rise in insecurity, particularly in Bandra, a suburban area known for being home to many members of the film industry.
The incident comes after India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies recently won elections in Maharashtra, the state where Mumbai is located.
Reuters has a minority stake in ANI.
