Doug Crowe of Casper has been announced as one of three new inductees into the Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame, joining Steve Kilpatrick of Dubois and Jim Zumbo of Cody, Oil City News reports.

This honor recognizes individuals who have made significant, lasting contributions to the conservation of Wyoming’s outdoor heritage.

Established in 2004 by Governor Dave Freudenthal, the Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame celebrates those who have dedicated their lives to preserving the state’s natural resources. Inductees are selected for their efforts in volunteerism, environmental restoration, education, media, the arts, and leadership. The Hall of Fame also aims to educate the public and emphasize the importance of Wyoming’s rich outdoor legacy.

This year’s induction ceremony is scheduled for March 19 at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody. Tickets are currently available, with limited space for attendees.

Doug Crowe earned respect as a wildlife professional on local, national, and international levels. As an assistant director for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, he served as a legislative liaison and later as a special assistant to the director of the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C. There, he became a vital consultant for state wildlife agencies and represented the US at international conventions on endangered species.

Crowe, who earned his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Wyoming with groundbreaking research on bobcats, also contributed to education as a biology professor and department chair at Casper College.

Steve Kilpatrick, a retired Game and Fish habitat biologist from Dubois, significantly improved habitat for wildlife and agriculture during his tenure. His projects impacted over 530,000 acres in northwest Wyoming. Beyond his state service, Kilpatrick took on leadership roles at the Teton Science School, Wyoming Wildlife Federation, and Wyoming Wild Sheep Foundation, earning numerous accolades, including the Craighead Wildlife Conservation Award.

Jim Zumbo, a celebrated outdoor writer and television host from Cody, has authored 23 books and nearly 3,000 magazine articles on hunting and fishing. His dedication extends to organizing hunting and fishing trips for more than 200 combat-injured veterans. Zumbo has received numerous awards, including the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Wallace Fennell Pate Wildlife Conservation Award and induction into the Legends of the Outdoors National Hall of Fame.

In addition to the Hall of Fame inductees, the banquet will honor the 2025 Game and Fish Youth Conservationist of the Year, Colton Schick of Cheyenne. A high school senior, Schick has participated in numerous conservation programs and achieved accolades in 4-H, FFA, and wildlife competitions.
