The Casper area is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures as an arctic storm is set to sweep through central Wyoming, Oil City News reports.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, the storm will usher in the first arctic airmass of the season, bringing biting cold and potentially some snow.

The arctic storm is forecasted to arrive on Saturday, Jan. 18, and persist for several days. By Sunday morning, Jan. 19, temperatures across the region are expected to plummet into the double digits below zero. Highs on Sunday and Monday are likely to remain in the single digits, with a forecasted low of minus 15 degrees on Sunday.

The NWS warns residents to prepare for these extreme conditions, as the cold could significantly impact daily routines and travel plans.

While frigid temperatures are the main concern, the NWS also reports that snow is possible during the storm. However, meteorologists note that the amount of expected snowfall remains uncertain at this time.

Residents should take precautions to stay safe during the cold snap. This includes ensuring vehicles are winter-ready, checking heating systems, and taking measures to prevent frozen pipes. Additionally, those planning to travel should monitor weather updates and road conditions closely.
