The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) is launching the 2025 Wyoming Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and is seeking additional local partners to help serve meals to children across the state this summer.
The program, which has been running for over 20 years, provides free, nutritious meals to children and teens when school is not in session, aiming to ensure that children have access to healthy food even during the summer months.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder highlighted the importance of local organizations in making the program a success.
“For more than 20 years, the SFSP has ensured that thousands of meals annually are served to children across Wyoming during the summer,” Degenfelder said. “With help from organizations at the local level, we can support the health and well-being of our children the Wyoming way, allowing them to thrive and enjoy their summer break.”
The SFSP is federally funded and state-administered, reimbursing providers for meals served to eligible children. The program is a vital resource for many families, particularly those who rely on school meals throughout the academic year. By bridging the nutrition gap over the summer months, the SFSP helps ensure that no child goes hungry.
The WDE is encouraging local organizations to get involved in the program. Partners can apply through the WDE website to become meal providers or to support the initiative in other ways. The department is committed to ensuring that every child in Wyoming has access to nutritious meals, and they are grateful for the support of local communities in achieving this goal. The WDE looks forward to another successful summer of feeding Wyoming’s youth and ensuring their continued well-being.
