The Wyoming Transportation Commission has awarded contracts totaling $74.8 million for a range of infrastructure improvements across the state, ConstructionEquipmentGuide.com reports.
These projects, which include bridge replacements, road upgrades, and asphalt paving, are set to take place in multiple counties and will primarily be funded with federal dollars.
The commission’s decision was made during its regular business meeting on November 21, 2024, where it awarded bids for eight construction projects managed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).
One of the largest awards, over $26.6 million, went to Simon Contractors of Cheyenne for a bridge replacement project on approximately 11.25 miles of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Pine Bluffs in Laramie County. The project includes concrete paving, structure work, asphalt paving, grading, traffic control, stormwater drainage, and aggregate surfacing.
Another significant contract, valued at nearly $17.3 million, was awarded to Sundance-based Croell Inc. for a bridge rehabilitation project on approximately 9.09 miles of Interstate 25 between Casper and Kaycee in Johnson County. This project includes asphalt paving, grading, structure work, traffic control, chip seal, stormwater drainage, guardrail installation, fencing, and erosion control.
A bid worth approximately $12.2 million went to Cheyenne-based JTL Group Inc., DBA Knife River, for a mill, overlay, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrade project on approximately 2.01 miles of US 287 and US 30 (Third Street) in Laramie. This project encompasses a variety of tasks, including asphalt paving, grading, electrical work, sidewalk construction, curb and gutter installation, and stormwater drainage.
In Park County, Mountain Construction Co. of Lovell secured a $9.8 million bid for a project involving mill, overlay, bridge rehabilitation, and fish passage construction on about 8.5 miles of Wyoming Highway 296/Chief Joseph Highway. The work includes asphalt paving, traffic control, structure work, chip seal, grading, and stormwater drainage.
Several other bids were awarded for smaller projects across Wyoming. These include:
- A $3.8 million contract to McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co. for work on Wyoming Highway 433 between Worland and Manderson in Big Horn County, which involves asphalt paving, grading, stormwater drainage, and chip sealing.
- A $2.5 million contract to McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co. for a similar project on Wyoming Highway 434 between Ten Sleep and Big Trails in Washakie County.
- A $2 million bid to Reiman Corp. of Cheyenne for bridge rehabilitation work across various locations in Sublette County.
- A $496,782 contract to Mills-based King Enterprises for a fencing project along Wyoming Highway 372 between Kemmerer and Fontenelle in Lincoln County.
All of these projects are funded primarily through federal dollars, with most WYDOT contracts awarded to the lowest bidder. The work is set to be completed over the next few years, with final contract completion dates ranging from 2025 to 2026, depending on the scope of each project.
