The University of Wyoming wrestling team experienced significant movement in the latest round of national rankings, with several Cowboys climbing to higher positions despite a smaller number of ranked wrestlers.
After it was announced that 125-pound wrestler Jore Volk would miss the remainder of the season due to injury, two of his teammates stepped up to become the highest-ranked individuals on the squad. Joey Novak (197 pounds) and Jared Hill (157 pounds) both earned spots in the top 12. Novak holds the No. 12 ranking in both FloWrestling and Open Mat’s polls, while Hill ranks No. 12 in Open Mat’s rankings.
Additionally, Gabe Willochell (149 pounds) has moved into the top 20, earning as high as No. 19 in WIN’s rankings. Cole Brooks (184 pounds) rounds out the ranked Cowboys, holding the No. 30 spot in InterMat’s rankings.
Wyoming’s wrestling team will return to action this weekend at the NWCA National Dual Meet Championships, taking place inside the UNI-Dome at the University of Northern Iowa on Friday and Saturday.
