Indigo Exploration Inc. has initiated a 50-hole drilling campaign on its uranium project in Wyoming’s Shirley Basin, a region with a history of uranium production, Junior Mining Network reports.

The Hot Property, spanning 5.75 square kilometers (2.2 square miles), has seen over 200 exploration holes drilled between 1957 and 1975. The project is strategically located near established uranium operations, including Uranium Energy Corp.’s Shirley Basin project, Ur-Energy Inc.’s Shirley Basin mine, and Nuclear Fuels Inc.’s Bobcat Uranium Project.

This marks Indigo’s first drilling campaign on its 100%-owned Hot Property. The program focuses on the southern portion of the property, targeting areas with favorable historical intercepts and undrilled zones.

  • Drill Specifications: The 50 holes will be spaced approximately 160 meters (525 feet) apart.
  • Exploration Goals:
    • Assess the thickness and grade of uranium mineralization.
    • Use downhole gamma-ray geophysical logging to characterize uranium deposits.
    • Develop a stratigraphic framework to model the continuity of near-surface uranium roll fronts.

The project is expected to be completed within 10 days, advancing Indigo’s understanding of the site’s potential.

The Shirley Basin is home to significant uranium resources. For instance, Ur-Energy’s Shirley Basin project boasts an NI 43-101 Measured and Indicated Resource of 8.8 Mlb U3O8 grading 0.23% and is currently under construction. Indigo’s proximity to such projects underscores the region’s potential for further uranium discoveries.

Indigo Exploration President and CEO Paul Cowley expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating that the program represents a crucial step toward understanding the property’s potential. The company aims to identify viable uranium resources to support the growing demand for nuclear energy.

Indigo emphasized that mineral exploration is speculative and subject to risks, including fluctuating commodity prices and the availability of financing. The company advises caution in interpreting forward-looking statements, as actual results may differ from projections.
