Gasoline prices in Wyoming have dipped modestly over the past week, decreasing by an average of 3.0 cents per gallon to reach $2.82 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 494 stations across the state, K2 Radio reports.

Despite the slight drop, significant price variation persists, with the lowest-reported price at $2.27 per gallon and the highest at $3.69 per gallon, a difference of $1.42.

While Wyoming’s gas prices fell, the national average increased by 5.6 cents, climbing to $3.03 per gallon. Diesel prices also rose nationally, increasing by 1.5 cents to $3.488 per gallon.

The national increase in gas prices is attributed to surging oil prices, which reached nearly $74 per barrel last week. According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, optimism surrounding China’s economic policy changes has driven oil prices higher, potentially boosting global demand. De Haan predicts slight increases at the pump in the coming weeks, followed by a seasonal spike in mid-to-late February.

Wyoming’s current average of $2.82 per gallon aligns with broader trends seen in recent years. However, prices are significantly lower than those observed during the same period in 2022 ($3.26/g) and 2023 ($3.01/g). Here’s a snapshot of historical averages for Wyoming and the U.S.:

  • 2024: $2.75/g (U.S.: $3.06/g)
  • 2023: $3.01/g (U.S.: $3.27/g)
  • 2022: $3.26/g (U.S.: $3.31/g)
  • 2021: $2.19/g (U.S.: $2.30/g)
  • 2016: $1.91/g (U.S.: $2.00/g)

While Wyoming’s prices declined slightly, neighboring regions experienced increases:

  • Fort Collins, CO: $2.81/g, up 1.8 cents.
  • Ogden, UT: $3.00/g, up 3.3 cents.
  • Billings, MT: $2.72/g, up 3.4 cents.
