The start of the new year brought fresh basketball rankings as WyoPreps unveiled its third edition of the Coaches and Media Basketball Polls on New Year’s Day, Wyopreps.com reports.

While some top teams retained their spots, notable changes across several classifications provided excitement for fans of Wyoming high school basketball.

The Class 2A girls’ poll saw a shake-up, with Tongue River ascending to the top spot. Across all classes, one new team entered the rankings, while three of the four classifications showed differences from the last poll. Class 4A, however, remained stable, with East retaining its number-one position and no changes in the top five.

Girls’ Rankings Breakdown

  • Class 1A: Southeast, Cokeville, Upton, Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Burlington
  • Class 2A: Tongue River, Wyoming Indian, Rocky Mountain, Pine Bluffs, Sundance
  • Class 3A: Douglas, Cody, Pinedale, Wheatland, Mountain View
  • Class 4A: East, Sheridan, Central, Campbell County, Laramie

In the boys’ poll, two new teams debuted, with Wheatland, Big Piney, and Lander earning spots in their respective classes. Class 4A saw Laramie maintaining its top position, showcasing consistency among larger schools. Ties emerged in the rankings, particularly in Class 2A and Class 1A, highlighting closely matched teams.

Boys’ Rankings Breakdown

  • Class 1A: Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Upton, Cokeville (T3), Lusk (T3), Saratoga
  • Class 2A: Wright, Thermopolis (T2), Big Piney (T2), Wyoming Indian, Pine Bluffs
  • Class 3A: Lovell, Cody, Powell, Douglas, Lander
  • Class 4A: Laramie, Sheridan, East, Central, Campbell County

The rankings are based on votes from head coaches across all classifications and media representatives throughout Wyoming. This collaborative approach provides a balanced perspective on the performance and potential of teams statewide.
