Russian Military Cargo Ship Sunk in Mediterranean Sea Following ‘Terrorist Attack,’ Owner Claims

A Russian military cargo ship that sank in the Mediterranean Sea earlier this week was the target of a terrorist attack, according to its owner, Oboronlogistika, a company owned by the Russian Defense Ministry, Bloomberg reports, citing Russian state news service RIA Novosti.

The vessel, named Ursa Major, reportedly sustained three explosions on its right side before sinking. Oboronlogistika, which handles the transportation of both military and civilian goods for the Russian military, said that the ship was the largest cargo vessel in its fleet.

The Ursa Major, with a capacity of 1,200 tons and capable of carrying 120 vehicles on its deck, went down on December 23. Two crew members remain missing, while 14 others were rescued from the scene.
