The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is offering older adults in the state free access to a wide array of online classes through its ongoing partnership with GetSetUp, a digital education platform, The Cheyenne Post reports.
This initiative aims to promote wellness, creativity, and social connection among older Wyomingites by providing opportunities to learn new skills and engage with others from the comfort of their homes.
According to Jeff Clark, Community Living Section manager with the WDH Aging Division, the platform provides thousands of interactive classes tailored to older adults. These sessions are taught by peers, making the experience relatable and supportive.
“Fitness classes, like the popular ‘indoor walking workout,’ are especially favored by Wyoming users,” Clark noted.
He added that other topics include avoiding scams, improving computer skills, crafting, cooking, and exploring volunteer opportunities.
Wyoming residents have collectively attended nearly 20,000 classes since the program launched three years ago, underscoring its popularity and utility.
GetSetUp’s custom-built video interface is user-friendly and accommodates various tech skill levels. The platform operates around the clock and offers both live and recorded sessions. To ensure an optimal experience, it provides tech support via phone, booking reminders, and detailed post-class notes.
Residents can access the free classes by visiting GetSetUp’s Wyoming page and using the coupon code “Wyoming” during booking to waive fees. Classes are also available in Spanish and other languages, expanding accessibility further.
Clark emphasized that the platform not only promotes learning but also fosters social interaction, particularly valuable during Wyoming’s challenging winter weather.
“These classes are a simple way to connect with others from the safety of one’s home,” he said.
