Wyoming Police Rescue Cat Trapped Inside Chimney
A feline misadventure in Wyoming ended happily thanks to quick thinking and teamwork by local police officers, United Press International reports.
The Powell Police Department reported successfully rescuing a cat stuck inside a chimney at Northwest College Foundation’s Nelson House.
Staff at the house first noticed the cat’s cries and attempted to reach it but were unsuccessful. Officers Sgt. Dustin DelBiaggio and Officer Isaac Gutierrez arrived to assist, discovering that the cat had climbed further up the chimney to evade them.
Using creative methods, the officers dropped objects into the chimney from the roof to encourage the cat to move lower. Eventually, the pair managed to extract the animal by squeezing into the fireplace together and carefully pulling it out.
“The two of us tried to squeeze into the fireplace together and kind of were able to hold on to it… until [Gutierrez] was able to get a good grasp on it and pull it out of there,” DelBiaggio told the Powell Tribune.
The cat, though dirty and thirsty, was unharmed. Its owners, who had been out of town for Christmas, said the pet had recently developed a habit of wandering for extended periods and had been missing for about a week before the chimney incident.
The cat is currently being cared for at a local animal shelter and will be reunited with its family upon their return. The Powell Police Department joked on social media that a “cat-astrophe” had been averted, adding a touch of humor to the heartwarming rescue.
