Stock markets will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas Day, the Economic Times reports.

This closure includes all segments of the market, such as the equity, derivative, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments. The multi-commodity exchange will also be closed for both its morning and evening sessions.

Global markets are similarly affected by the Christmas holiday, with major exchanges such as Wall Street being closed. This often leads to a slowdown in trading activity, as seen with Japan’s Nikkei share average, which edged lower on Wednesday as investors refrained from making active bets.

Looking ahead, stock markets in India will have 14 trading holidays in the coming year, down from 16 in 2024. These holidays are spread across various months, with February, May, November, and December each having one holiday, while March and August will have two. Notably, April and October will each have three trading holidays.

The next trading holiday for the Indian stock markets will be on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, for Mahashivratri. Additionally, some holidays in 2025, such as Republic Day on January 26, Shri Ram Navami on April 6, and Muharram on July 6, will fall on weekends.

Investors and traders are advised to plan their activities around these holidays, and detailed holiday calendars are available on the official websites of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
