The Food Bank of Wyoming is working to ensure families across the state have enough to eat this holiday season by offering a matching donation campaign throughout December, Wyoming News Now reports.

While Christmas is often considered a joyous time, it can also bring heightened stress for families facing financial challenges. Jill Stillwagon, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Wyoming, noted that food insecurity is at its highest level in a decade, with 1 in 7 Wyomingites — including 1 in 5 children — struggling to access enough food.

To address this need, the Food Bank is distributing food to all 23 counties in Wyoming through its partner network and signature programs.

“Our goal is to provide nourishing meals to those experiencing food insecurity this season,” said Stillwagon.

In a special effort to amplify community support, the John P. Ellbogen Foundation is matching all monetary donations made to the Food Bank during December. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank can provide enough food for six meals.

“This really goes far right now when families and individuals are reaching out for support this holiday season,” Stillwagon emphasized.

The Food Bank has seen an increase in demand while also grappling with reduced resources compared to the height of the pandemic.

“We’re experiencing not only an increase in neighbors needing food assistance, but also fewer resources to meet the need,” said Stillwagon.

In addition to monetary donations, the Food Bank of Wyoming encourages community members to volunteer their time. Whether through financial support or volunteering, the organization hopes to ensure that no one goes hungry during the holidays.
