Wyoming’s older adults now have access to a variety of free online classes through a partnership between the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) and the online learning platform GetSetUp, Wyoming Department of Health reports.
This initiative is designed to help seniors stay active, improve their wellness, and explore new skills, all from the comfort of their homes.
Since its launch in Wyoming three years ago, nearly 20,000 classes have been attended by state residents. Jeff Clark, Community Living Section manager with WDH’s Aging Division, highlighted the program’s benefits, emphasizing how GetSetUp provides older adults with the opportunity to engage in a wide range of educational activities.
“Fitness classes have been the most popular by far among Wyoming users,” Clark said.
He noted that subjects offered go beyond physical fitness to include topics like building computer skills, avoiding scams, crafting, cooking, and volunteering.
Classes on GetSetUp are led by older adults for their peers, which adds a sense of community and shared experience. Clark also pointed out that the platform offers an easy way to connect with others, especially in times when poor weather or other factors might make in-person meetings difficult.
“These classes can be a simple way to connect with others from the comfort and safety of one’s home,” he said.
The GetSetUp platform offers both live sessions and recorded classes, making learning flexible and accessible at any time. It is tailored to meet the needs of older adults with varying levels of technological expertise. The site provides phone support, in-class technology assistance, and features like reminders and follow-up notes to help participants make the most of their learning experience.
For Wyoming residents, these online courses are entirely free, thanks to the partnership with WDH. To take advantage of this offer, residents can use the coupon code “Wyoming” when booking classes at GetSetUp’s website. Additionally, many classes are available in Spanish, with some also offered in other languages.
