Trump Signals Foreign Policy Shift, Snubs Ukraine’s Zelensky While Courting Russia’s Putin, China’s Xi
In a sweeping 70-minute press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate, President-elect Donald Trump announced a significant shift in US foreign policy, voicing his decision to exclude Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky from his inauguration ceremony, MSN reports.
The move, revealed during Trump’s first formal post-election press conference, hints at a potential rebalancing of US international relations.
While Trump’s team is reportedly working to improve ties with Russia, maintaining open communication with President Vladimir Putin’s office, he also confirmed extending an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has reportedly declined to come.
The snub of Zelensky, a key questioner of American funds from the Biden administration for Kyiv in the conflict with Russia, stands in stark contrast to the outreach to Putin and Xi.
“We are working to stabilize international relations,” Trump said during the press conference.
Beyond foreign affairs, Trump outlined plans for a drastic overhaul of federal governance, promising a decisive break from the Biden administration. He criticized the current state of affairs and vowed to improve efficiency, declaring that federal workers who fail to return to the office will be fired. He also revealed his consideration of privatizing the United States Postal Service.
