Austrian international footballer Guido Burgstaller has been hospitalized with a fractured skull following a weekend assault in Vienna, CNN reports, citing his club, Rapid Vienna.
The 35-year-old, a veteran of 26 appearances for the Austrian national team, was reportedly attacked by an unknown assailant in the city center.
Rapid Vienna’s statement confirmed Burgstaller suffered a basal skull fracture after a fall resulting from a violent blow. He is currently under medical supervision in a Viennese hospital and is expected to be sidelined for several months.
Burgstaller’s career includes stints with German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 and a brief period with Cardiff City in the English Championship. His most recent appearance for the Austrian national team was in October 2023. He has scored two goals for Austria throughout his international career.
