Wyoming residents affected by the severe 2024 wildfire season will soon have access to a new resource aimed at streamlining recovery efforts.
Governor Mark Gordon has announced the release of the Wyoming Wildfire Recovery Guide, a comprehensive tool designed to help impacted households, landowners, small businesses, and non-profits navigate federal relief programs more effectively.
Governor Gordon highlighted the unique nature of this year’s wildfires, noting that, unlike past incidents that primarily affected federal lands managed by agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the US Forest Service, the 2024 fires significantly impacted private lands. This shift prompted the state to develop new disaster management strategies tailored to the specific challenges of this year’s fires.
“Historically, large wildfires have affected mostly federal lands, forests and BLM; but this year’s fires overwhelmingly hit private lands. That is why we have had to look for new disaster management strategies that focus on repair and restoration specific to the 2024 fires, and ensure we address the impacts to the state’s agricultural sector, businesses, and homeowners,” Governor Gordon stated.
The Wyoming Wildfire Recovery Guide aims to provide clear, step-by-step instructions on how residents can access available federal funding. Governor Gordon emphasized the importance of ensuring that all those in need are aware of their options and know how to pursue financial assistance.
“It’s important to do everything in our power to make certain those who need assistance know how and where to get it and to fully utilize the funds available to them. The Governor’s Management Office (GMO) has done their due diligence and is prepared to assist those choosing to move forward to seek available federal funding,” Gordon added.
To offer further support and guidance, the state will host a Wildfire Recovery Guide Webinar. The virtual event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., providing Wyoming residents with an opportunity to learn more about the recovery guide and ask questions directly to officials.
