Governor Mark Gordon has ordered the Wyoming State Flag to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, December 10, to honor the life and service of Mary Hales, a former member of the Wyoming House of Representatives, Wyoming News Now reports.
The directive applies to state flags at the Capitol in Cheyenne and in Natrona County from sunrise to sunset.
Hales, who passed away on November 21, 2024, represented District 36 in Natrona County in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010. During her tenure, she was known for her dedication to public service and her contributions to the state’s legislative process.
In addition to her role as a state representative, Hales was an active leader within the Wyoming Democratic Party, serving as the party’s secretary. She also played a national role in party affairs, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
Governor Gordon’s decision to lower the state flag reflects Hales’ lasting impact on Wyoming’s political landscape and her service to the people of Natrona County.
Flags flown at half-staff are a symbolic gesture of respect, mourning, and remembrance for individuals who have made significant contributions to the state or nation.
Hales’ legacy as a public servant, party leader, and community advocate will be remembered and honored by Wyoming residents, especially those in Natrona County, where she devoted much of her life to serving her community.
