The 2024 Wyoming Indian High School Christmas Holiday Music Program brought together students, staff, and the community for an evening of musical performances that celebrated the diverse talents of students from across the school, County 10 reports.

Organized by music instructor Nancy Seiler with support from Traditional Club Sponsors Sandra Iron Cloud and Michael Ridge Bear, the annual event has become a beloved showcase of student creativity and cultural pride.

Held last week, the program featured a variety of musical performances, ranging from instrumental solos to group drumline numbers. The event highlighted students of all skill levels, offering them a platform to build confidence and share their talents with the community.

Nancy Seiler, a certified K-12 music instructor, guided students through each musical segment, providing not only direction but also encouragement and accompaniment. Seiler herself performed, singing “Silent Night” in both English and Arapaho, showcasing the blending of cultural traditions central to the evening’s theme.

The performances included solo acts, group pieces, and instrumental showcases. Students at varying levels of experience took to the stage, with some making their debut performances in front of a live audience. Others, like Trace Spotted Elk, demonstrated their well-honed skills. Spotted Elk delivered a memorable performance of Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange”, singing and playing guitar.

Later, Spotted Elk rejoined his fellow drummers and drumline for energetic renditions of “We Will Rock You,” “William Tell,” the University of Wyoming pep song “California,” and the crowd favorite, “Jig 2.” The drumline’s performance brought the energy of the evening to a high point, earning cheers from the crowd.

In addition to the performances, the event recognized and honored the contributions of senior students who have participated in the music program throughout their high school careers. The seniors honored included:

  • Anthony Arthur
  • Seth Spoonhunter
  • Blayden Norse
  • Aiken McCabe
  • Martin Underwood
  • Marley C’Hair
  • Noah Red Willow
  • Ruby Burton
  • Anessa White
  • Rachael DuShane

These seniors were acknowledged for their dedication and contributions to the school’s music program, marking a moment of reflection and celebration for their achievements.

The evening concluded with a performance by the Traditional Club Dancers, adding a cultural dimension to the festivities. The dancers, whose movements are rooted in traditional Native American customs, provided a fitting close to a night of music and community.

To further engage attendees, the program featured a turkey basket and prize giveaway led by Assistant Principal Kevin Ley. Snacks and refreshments were available for guests as they departed, fostering a communal atmosphere for students, families, and community members to connect.

The Wyoming Indian High School Christmas Holiday Music Program has grown into more than just a concert. It’s a celebration of music, culture, and community pride. By providing students with a stage to express themselves, the program allows them to build confidence, explore their artistic potential, and share their talents with the broader community.
