The blast at the ENI facility, one of Italy’s largest energy companies, has also left four people missing.
A fire erupted following the explosion, but the local municipality of Calenzano reported that it is now under control. The regional Department of Civil Protection issued a safety alert for a five-kilometer radius around the site, advising residents to keep windows closed and avoid the area.
The incident has prompted a large-scale emergency response, with rescue workers and emergency services on the scene. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
“All of Tuscany is united in grief for the tragedy that happened today in Calenzano,” Regional President Eugenio Giani posted on Telegram, expressing condolences to the victims and their families.
