Seven Wyoming state legislators received a perfect score on the 2024 Wyoming State Economic Scorecard, a report issued by the Club for Growth Foundation, a free-market advocacy group, the Centre Square reports.

The scorecard evaluates lawmakers based on their votes on key economic policies, with scores ranging from 0 to 100.

State Senators Anthony Bouchard (R-Cheyenne), Bob Ide (R-Casper), Troy McKeown (R-Gillette), and Cheri Steinmetz (R-Goshen County) each earned a 100% rating. In the House, Representatives Bill Allemand (R-Edgerton), John Bear (R-Gillette), and Jeanette Ward (R-Casper) also achieved perfect scores.

The 2024 scorecard analyzed over 850 votes on policies related to economic growth, including the creation of a statewide education savings account program that provides $6,000 annually for K-12 students and a bill that capped property tax increases for single-family homes.

David McIntosh, president of the Club for Growth Foundation, praised Wyoming lawmakers for passing bills aimed at enhancing the state’s economic health but emphasized the need for continued efforts.

“Lawmakers in the state must continue to prioritize economic freedom for all citizens of the Cowboy State by limiting the size and scope of government,” McIntosh said.

The report revealed that the average score for Republican state senators was 58%, while Democratic state senators averaged 17%. Among House members, Republicans averaged 51%, and Democrats scored an average of 21%. The lowest score for a Republican went to Sen. Bill Landen (R-Casper), who received 11%. The lowest for a Democrat was 16%, given to Rep. Mike Yin (D-Jackson).

Despite the disparities, the report noted improvements from 2023. Last year, Republican state senators averaged 49%, while House Republicans scored 49%. Democrats also saw progress, with Senate Democrats improving from 8% to 17% and House Democrats from 2% to 21%.

McIntosh highlighted the importance of the scorecard in educating Wyoming residents.

“Through our scorecard series, the Club for Growth Foundation equips Wyomingites with the tools to understand how their state legislators are shaping or threatening economic freedom,” he said.
