The University of Wyoming Extension has opened registration for its 2025 Master Gardener training program, an online course designed for gardening enthusiasts looking to expand their knowledge and assist others in their communities, Oil City News reports.

The program begins January 9 and runs through May 15.

“I am so excited to get the online Master Gardener training up and going for 2025… People across Wyoming have been looking forward to the next online training session for quite a while, and now we can get the next class of volunteers trained and out in their communities helping other gardeners,” said Donna Hoffman, a UW Extension educator.

The 16-session course includes 48 instructional hours, led by 14 UW faculty members and extension educators. Classes will be held via Zoom on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., with all sessions recorded for participants to access later.

Participants will explore a variety of topics, including:

  • Botany basics
  • Soil science and composting
  • Ornamental plants and pruning
  • Vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees
  • Integrated pest management and pesticide safety
  • Landscape design and alternative turf

Participants will also receive a copy of the Sustainable Horticulture for Wyoming: A Master Gardener Handbook, which will be available for pickup at county extension offices.

Early bird registration is available until January 1 for $175. Regular registration will continue through January 9 at a cost of $200. The course is non-credit, but those who complete it will receive a certificate. Graduates must complete 40 volunteer hours to earn the title of Master Gardener.

For more information or to register, contact Donna Hoffman at dmcuin@uwyo.edu or 307-235-9400, or visit a local extension office.
