The Wind River Transportation Authority (WRTA) is continuing its annual tradition of providing free transportation for University of Wyoming (UW) students, families, and other travelers heading to Fremont County for the Thanksgiving holiday, County 10 reports.
This service, fully funded by the Fremont County 1/2% sales tax for economic development, has become a valuable resource for many over the years, offering a convenient and cost-free way for people to travel between Laramie and Fremont County.
WRTA is committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of its riders, especially during the busy holiday season. The organization’s goal is to provide a reliable and safe transportation option, helping everyone get home for the holidays and return to campus without incurring any charges.
Travelers planning to use the service are asked to contact WRTA in advance at (307) 856-9782 or fill out an online form to provide their rider information. For those needing transportation beyond Lander and Riverton, additional arrangements can be made by reaching out to WRTA directly.

Departure from Laramie:
- Date: November 26, 2024
- Time: 2:00 p.m.
- Location: Long-term parking lot along 30th St. by Willet Dr., Laramie
- Parking: UW Transit services will be available for those needing to reach the designated pickup area near the East Express Lot. Long-term parking has been arranged in coordination with UW for those who plan to park their vehicles during the break.
Arrival in Fremont County:
- Lander: Bomgaars parking lot (275 Grandview Dr, Lander, WY) at approximately 6:00 p.m.
- Riverton: City Hall parking lot (816 N Federal Blvd, Riverton, WY) at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Return to Laramie:
- Departure from Riverton: December 1, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. (City Hall parking lot)
- Departure from Lander: December 1, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. (Bomgaars parking lot)
