Aetna Medicare Value Plan has announced it will not offer a Medicare plan in Wyoming in 2025, prompting those currently enrolled to seek alternative coverage, WYO4News reports.
Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC), which participates in Aetna’s Medicare network, will also end its affiliation with the plan effective January 1, 2025.
Melida Marin, a Patient Financial Navigator at MHSC, views this change as an opportunity for beneficiaries to explore new options.
“This gives people the chance to now enroll in a supplemental plan,” Marin said.
Aetna’s notification highlights key details for affected members:
- Action Required by December 31, 2024: Without action, individuals will transition to Original Medicare without prescription drug coverage starting January 1, 2025.
- Special Enrollment Period: Members have until February 28, 2025, to select a new Medicare health or drug plan. Coverage for plans chosen after December 31, 2024, will begin the month after enrollment.
- Potential Penalties: Failure to join a plan with prescription drug coverage by February 28 may result in a lifetime Part D late-enrollment penalty.
- Assistance Available: Beneficiaries are encouraged to evaluate their Medicare options and seek assistance if needed.
