Wyoming Cowboys Set to Face Tulane in Cancun Challenge Opener

The Wyoming Cowboys basketball team is preparing for their opening game in the 2024 Cancun Challenge, where they will face the Tulane Green Wave on Tuesday at 4 p.m., Oil City News reports.

The game will be held in the Yucatán Peninsula as part of the multi-team event.

Wyoming enters the challenge with a strong 4–1 overall record after securing a narrow 64–61 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Friday in Laramie. The Cowboys have been dominant on the boards this season, ranking first in the Mountain West Conference and 12th nationally with an average of 44.4 rebounds per game. Offensively, they are scoring 77.6 points per game while shooting 46% from the field, while defensively, they limit opponents to just 42% shooting.

Tulane, with a 4–2 record, brings an offensive punch to the matchup, averaging 77.7 points per game. The Green Wave also limits opponents to 63.7 points per game, shooting 43% from the field and holding teams to just 35% shooting.

The Cowboys’ offense is led by Obi Agbim, who is averaging 17.4 points per game. Agbim is shooting 53% from the field and 50% from beyond the three-point line, and he also contributes 3.0 assists per game. In addition, Kobe Newton adds 12.3 points per game and boasts an impressive 57.1% shooting rate. Jordan Nesbitt, who averages 11 points per game, is a standout rebounder, leading the team with 10.8 boards per game, ranking first in the Mountain West and eighth nationally.

Tulane’s offense is spearheaded by Kaleb Banks, who is putting up 17.7 points and eight rebounds per game. Rowan Brumbaugh contributes 12.5 points per game and leads the Green Wave with 33 assists on the season.
