Evanston High School senior Ryker Lind, a dominant force in Wyoming’s Class 4A golf this season, has officially signed to play for the University of Wyoming next fall, Uinta County Herald reports.
Lind’s stellar performance included winning every tournament he entered, securing the 4A State Golf Championship, and earning the prestigious Lew Lepore Player of the Year Award, given by the Wyoming Coaches Association to the state’s top high school golfer.
“I had interest from a couple of schools, but never got an offer from them except for UW… I’ve been telling my dad that UW would be a dream come true, and once I got the official offer, I took it right away,” Lind shared.
Lind’s accolades extend beyond this year. Like his older brother, Braxton, he is a two-time All-State golfer. In addition to his achievements on the course, Lind has been a key player on the basketball court, helping the Red Devils reach the 4A State Tournament for the first time since 2020.
EHS head golf coach Jerry Carroll praised Lind’s dedication
“Ryker’s put a lot of time and energy into his game. He’s a kid who’s gone above and beyond, spending countless hours practicing. It’s very exciting when those labors pay off,” Carroll said.
Lind cited his connection with UW head coach Joe Jensen and the university’s close-knit golf team as deciding factors in his choice.
“I love the person Coach Jensen is and how he runs the team. The biggest decider was he carries a smaller team, and his philosophies are top-notch. It couldn’t have fit me any better,” Lind said.
Despite not taking an official visit, Lind’s familiarity with UW and its program made the decision an easy one. He has met some of his future teammates, including Austin Barry, with whom he competed at the Junior Americas Cup.
“He was a fantastic guy and an incredible golfer,” Lind noted.
Lind is eager to compete at the collegiate level. “What I’m looking forward to the most is the competition I’ll get to see and compete with,” he said.
“Playing against top-notch guys will make me better and push me to compete at that level.”
Coach Carroll believes Lind’s physical and mental attributes make him a standout prospect.
“He’s got all the tools—he’s 6’3”, hits the ball a mile, and has incredibly soft hands. He’s also a great leader, always putting the team first.”
Lind’s leadership and humility have left a lasting impact on EHS.
“When you’re as good as Ryker, everyone wants to compete against you… But he didn’t act like he was better than anyone else. He cared about his teammates and the team’s success,” Carroll said.
Reflecting on his time at EHS, Lind expressed gratitude for his coaches and peers.
“The friendships I’ve made as a Red Devil are what I’ll miss most… The atmosphere, the coaches, and my peers have all been amazing,” he said.
As Lind prepares for the next chapter of his golf career, his coach is confident he will thrive.
“He’s smart, humble, and a hard worker… With time and practice, he’s just going to get better and better. He’ll represent EHS and his community well in Laramie,” Carroll said.
