Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health is expanding its reach into Wyoming with the acquisition of Black Hills Surgery Center in Gillette, marking an important step in the healthcare provider’s growth across the region, Becker’s ASC Review reports.
Sanford Health, which is already a major player in the healthcare field, announced that it will be the new parent company of the Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center, the Black Hills Surgical Hospital, and several associated facilities, including clinics, urgent care locations, and the surgery center.
This acquisition will bring Black Hills Surgical and Black Hills Orthopedic, currently physician-owned, into the Sanford Health system as nonprofit entities. The two Black Hills organizations, which have long served the Rapid City, S.D., and Gillette, Wyo., areas, will now operate under Sanford’s umbrella, broadening the reach and scope of services available to patients.
According to a press release issued on November 14, the deal is set to close at the end of November. Under the new partnership, Sanford Health will continue to provide the wide range of specialized services offered by Black Hills Surgical, which includes orthopedics, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, cardiology, pain management, sports medicine, occupational medicine, imaging, and urgent care.
“This expansion into Wyoming allows Sanford Health to better serve the region with enhanced access to comprehensive, high-quality care… We look forward to working closely with the physicians and staff of Black Hills Orthopedic and Surgical to continue their legacy of excellence in patient care,” said Sanford Health officials.
As part of the transition, a board of community leaders will be established to oversee the operations and strategic direction of the combined system, ensuring that the needs of local communities are prioritized as the partnership moves forward.
The addition of Black Hills Surgery Center in Gillette is expected to strengthen Sanford Health’s presence in the area, providing more healthcare options for Wyoming residents, particularly in the specialties offered by Black Hills Surgical, which has earned a strong reputation for its broad array of services.
