Following a decisive election night, Wyoming’s political leaders have expressed support for President-elect Donald Trump after his victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Oil City News reports.
Trump secured the presidency with over 270 electoral votes, a result announced by the Associated Press early Wednesday. Trump garnered 72% of the vote in Wyoming, an increase from his 69.5% share in the 2020 election.
Wyoming’s Republican congressional members, who easily won re-election themselves, highlighted their excitement and optimism for Trump’s leadership.
“[Trump’s victory] is a mandate from the American people to get this country back on track,” Senator John Barrasso posted on social media platform X.
Barrasso emphasized that Trump’s agenda will align with the Republican-controlled Senate to “deliver for the American people.”
Representative Harriet Hageman also posted on X, sharing an article about Trump’s strong Wyoming support, captioned with “Wyoming loves President Trump!” Hageman won her House seat with 71% of the vote, while Barrasso earned 76% of the vote in his Senate race.
Senator Cynthia Lummis, a vocal proponent of cryptocurrency, expressed particular enthusiasm for Trump’s win, pointing to his support for Bitcoin. Lummis re-posted a statement on X celebrating Trump as “a Bitcoin president,” a sentiment aligning with her own focus on cryptocurrency advocacy in Congress.
Former Representative Liz Cheney, however, remained a notable Republican critic of Trump, emphasizing the importance of democracy and constitutional safeguards following the election. Cheney, who has been a critic of Trump since the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, posted on X:
“Our nation’s democratic system functioned last night, and we have a new President-elect. All Americans are bound, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our elections.”
She added a call to “preserve the rule of law” and support democratic institutions in the coming years.
As Wyoming’s congressional delegation anticipates close collaboration with the new administration, many of the state’s leaders see Trump’s re-election as an opportunity to push forward conservative priorities and strengthen federal policies that align with Wyoming’s values.
