The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams secured victories over Air Force in an intense home meet Saturday, Swim Swam reports.
In a close men’s competition, the Cowboys edged out the Falcons with a final score of 155-145. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls achieved a commanding victory, defeating Air Force 196-102.
This meet marked the Cowboys’ first home event and conference dual of the season. Tied at 145 points heading into the last two events, Wyoming pulled ahead thanks to standout performances by Andrew Ravegum in the 200-yard individual medley and senior captain Gavin Smith, who anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, clinching the Cowboys’ victory. Wyoming Head Coach Dave Denniston praised the team’s effort and leadership.
“I told the guys we needed to win those last two events… Drew took business into his own hands in the 200 IM, and that 400 free relay was just exciting. You gotta love having a captain like Gavin anchor it,” Denniston stated.
On the women’s side, the Cowgirls maintained their season dominance in conference competition, winning 14 out of 16 events and consistently placing high across all categories. The team’s depth was evident, with several athletes finishing second and third in addition to their numerous event wins. Coach Denniston highlighted the strong performances from both veterans and freshmen, including a standout day for Taylor Craft and a solid showing by Abigail Bruss.
“It’s just fun to see them racing without fear,” Denniston remarked.
Despite the final scores, Air Force athletes also delivered impressive individual performances. The Falcons secured several top finishes in both swimming and diving events. For the men, Bridon Rosales won the 100 breaststroke, Garrett Kennedey took first in the 200 backstroke, Chase Dwornicki led the 100 freestyle, and Evan Witte triumphed in the 500 freestyle. On the boards, Air Force divers claimed the top three places in the 1-meter dive, with Alex Kenyon leading with a score of 316.13.
The Air Force women’s team saw similar success in individual events, with Alex Clark leading a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 IM, followed by Hanani Dona and Ella Martin. Ryan Mills took first in the 100 butterfly with a narrow victory over Wyoming’s Abigail Hardy.
Looking ahead, the Wyoming Cowgirls will head to Fort Collins for the Border War against Colorado State on Friday, November 8. Air Force’s swim team will travel to Phoenix to compete against Grand Canyon University on November 8-9.
