With approximately 80% of ballots counted in Wyoming, former President Donald Trump has a strong lead over Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election, Oil City News reports.
Trump has garnered 169,760 votes in the Cowboy State, compared to Harris’s 56,312, securing Wyoming’s three electoral votes, according to projections by the Associated Press (AP). This victory adds to Trump’s total of 247 electoral votes, bringing him closer to the 270 required to win the White House.
In a key development, AP called the critical state of Georgia for Trump at 11:05 p.m. With 94% of Georgia’s ballots counted, Trump holds 2,640,803 votes to Harris’s 2,513,864. Georgia’s decision places Trump even closer to victory, in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive and closely watched election.
Trump’s wins in states such as North Carolina and Iowa, as well as his decisive margins in Texas, Florida, and other southern and midwestern states, highlight a strong electoral path. These states have helped him reach his current total of 247 electors, while Harris, despite securing Democratic strongholds including California, New York, and New Jersey, is currently trailing with 214 electors.
Throughout the evening, both candidates have consolidated their bases, with Harris capturing traditional Democratic states on the East Coast and West Coast, while Trump has held his ground in the South and Midwest. AP has called several battleground states, underscoring the critical nature of each win as both candidates make their final push to 270.
In Wyoming’s Teton County, a traditionally Democratic-leaning area, Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, received approximately 66% of the vote, a slight decrease from the Democratic turnout in 2020. This year’s election in Wyoming also saw local measures on the ballot, including a property tax amendment aimed at easing the burden on residents. The amendment passed with overwhelming support, and a new sales tax narrowly won approval to fund a justice center and jail, with projected revenue coming largely from out-of-state visitors.
As results from the remaining states continue to roll in, the race remains tightly contested. While Trump currently has the advantage, Harris’s team is holding out hope for key states still in play.
This is a developing story, and results will be updated as the count progresses.
