The 2024 Wyoming High School Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships are set to take place this weekend at the newly inaugurated Cheyenne East Aquatics Facility at East High School in Cheyenne, WyoPreps reports.

This three-day event will showcase the talent of Wyoming’s young athletes from both Class 3A and Class 4A, featuring some of the top high school swimmers and divers from across the state.

Schedule Overview and Team Lineup

Class 3A Championships
Taking place Thursday and Friday, the Class 3A competition will include teams from Buffalo, Cody, Douglas, Kemmerer, Lander, Lyman, Newcastle, Powell, Rawlins, Sublette County, and Worland. While Green River’s move to Class 4A has left the 3A defending championship title vacant, several returning champions will still be competing.

Returning Champions in Class 3A
Notable athletes include Lander’s Lara Robertson, who will defend her titles in the 200 and 500 freestyle events, and Rachel Johnson from Evanston, a top contender in diving. Lander’s Katy Anderson will also return in the 100 backstroke, along with the Lander team in the 400 free relay.

The schedule for Class 3A kicks off with Diving Prelims and Semifinals on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by swimming prelims at approximately 4 p.m. The finals for all events will take place on Friday at 10 a.m.

Class 4A Championships
The Class 4A portion of the competition will occur Friday and Saturday and features teams from Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Evanston, Green River, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan, and Thunder Basin. Kelly Walsh enters as the defending team champion.

Returning Champions in Class 4A
Jackson’s Maren Tattersall will compete again in the 200 freestyle, while her teammate Amaya Olivieri defends her titles in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Jackson’s team returns in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, while Laramie’s Maggie Turpin is back in the diving competition.

Class 4A’s schedule begins with Diving Prelims and Semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m. and Swim Prelims at 6:30 p.m., with all event finals scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday.

This year’s championships mark the first time the event will be held at Cheyenne East’s new aquatics facility, an addition that brings excitement and prestige to the 2024 competition. The updated venue is expected to provide athletes with a top-tier environment for their championship performances.
