Coldplay’s Chris Martin Takes a Tumble During Melbourne Show
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had a dramatic stage mishap during the band’s final show in Melbourne on Sunday. While walking around the stage during a break between songs at Marvel Stadium, Martin suddenly disappeared into a hole, taking a tumble before being caught by someone standing below, CNN reports.
Video footage of the incident quickly spread on social media, showing Martin’s fall and his quick recovery.
“That’s uh, not planned. Thank you for catching me, so much. Thank you, guys,” he said to the crowd, adding with a chuckle, “Holy sh*t, that was nearly a YouTube moment.”
Despite the unexpected incident, Martin continued the show, which was part of Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” world tour. The band’s first Melbourne show was also marred by an unexpected absence, as bassist Guy Berryman was unable to perform due to illness.
“Tonight was the first time in our band’s history that we’ve played a show without all four members onstage,” Coldplay shared on Instagram. “Guy was taken ill unexpectedly just before the show. Thank you for carrying us through it.”
The band will now head to Sydney for four shows before moving on to Auckland, New Zealand. Their world tour is scheduled to culminate with 10 shows at Wembley Stadium in London starting on August 22, 2025.
This incident follows a similar mishap involving singer Olivia Rodrigo at a recent Melbourne concert. Rodrigo, performing in a spotlight, fell into a stage hole but managed to catch herself using her arms.
