The US Forest Service has issued its last update on the Pack Trail Fire, a wildfire that ignited in September in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest, Oil City News reports.

According to the Forest Service, the fire is now 95% contained, with the remaining active area confined to rugged, steep terrain that is challenging for firefighters to access. The onset of winter weather and anticipated snowfall is expected to help extinguish the fire entirely.

While fire activity has subsided significantly, the Forest Service noted that smoke and heat still persist in parts of the fire’s interior. The area will remain under a “patrol and monitor status,” and officials from Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests will continue to assess conditions as needed.

With containment nearly complete, all suppression repairs have also been finished, and the Forest Service has lifted all road closures, evacuation orders, and forest closure orders previously set to extend through mid-November. Although the area has reopened to visitors, the Forest Service advises caution regarding campfires, drone use, and other recreational activities, especially as dry conditions can still pose a fire risk.

The Forest Service will no longer provide daily updates on the Pack Trail Fire but encourages residents to stay informed on fire conditions through the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s social media pages.
