The Wyoming Historical Society is now accepting applications for its Homsher Research Grants, providing funding for historical research projects centered on Wyoming’s history, Oil City News reports.
Ranging from $100 to $1,500, the grants are available to amateur and professional historians alike who seek financial support for travel and other research-related expenses, such as document scanning. Applications are due by Friday, February 28, with applicants to be notified of results in the spring.
The Society’s First Vice President, Lucas Keeler, emphasized the importance of these grants in promoting a deeper understanding of the state’s history.
“Providing funds for researcher travel and for research-related costs…can make all the difference in completing a project. Creating opportunities for original research is a mainstay of the Homsher Grant program,” Keeler said.
Preference will be given to proposals that explore original topics related to Wyoming history, and while Wyoming residents receive preference, applications from all locations are welcome. Proposals must include a project purpose, an outline of research goals, and an explanation of the study’s anticipated benefit to public understanding of Wyoming’s history.
Funding for these grants originates from a donation made by Wyoming historian Lola Homsher, who helped establish the Wyoming Historical Society in 1953. Her endowment has since supported numerous projects aimed at preserving and sharing the state’s historical legacy.
Applicants can access application guidelines and forms on the Wyoming Historical Society’s website, or by contacting the Society directly at 307-322-3014 or via email at executivedirector@wyshs.org.
