The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and Reiman Corp. crews will temporarily close sections of US 26/89/189/191 south of Jackson on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to remove the final truss section of the historic Swinging Bridge.
Scheduled for approximately 10 a.m., the operation will involve moving the last truss section to the Snake River boat ramp, where two other sections of the bridge are already stored.
The closure is expected to last about 30 minutes to allow for the careful relocation of the bridge structure. Due to the bridge’s size and challenging maneuvering requirements, the highway will be entirely cleared of traffic during this time. WYDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area if possible and advises those in the vicinity to anticipate brief delays. Commuters can stay informed by signing up for 511 Notify alerts, which WYDOT will send out on Monday in preparation for the Tuesday move.
This removal is part of WYDOT’s federally funded Bridge Replacement Off System (BROS) program, which aims to replace aging local bridges on non-federal aid roads. Under the program, WYDOT constructs the replacement bridge, after which local authorities assume responsibility for ongoing maintenance.
