Tragedy struck a Riverton family on Thursday when three members, including a toddler, were found dead in their home, suspected to have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Early Thursday morning, Riverton Police responded to reports of fumes in a residential area, and emergency personnel forced entry into the home after detecting the odor. Inside, officers found two adults and a young child deceased, along with several family pets.
Emergency crews recorded dangerous levels of carbon monoxide within the home, prompting the fire department to secure the area and mitigate the hazard before detectives could proceed with their investigation. Known as the “silent killer,” carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can go undetected by residents and lead to fatal outcomes. Common sources of carbon monoxide include household appliances, vehicle exhaust, and heating systems, highlighting the importance of regular maintenance and monitoring within homes.
The Riverton Police Department has not released further details as the investigation into the incident continues.
