North Korean Troops Imminent in Ukraine: US Issues Warning
Top US officials have said that as many as 8,000 North Korean troops are currently stationed in Russia’s Kursk region and are expected to enter combat against Ukraine in the coming days, CNN reports.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, alongside their South Korean counterparts, revealed that the troops have undergone extensive training in artillery, drones, and basic infantry operations, including trench clearing. This indicates their preparedness for frontline combat.
The 8,000 troops represent a significant portion of the 10,000 North Korean troops allegedly deployed to Russia. The US has not yet witnessed their direct engagement in fighting.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has urged South Korea to increase its support for Kyiv.
In response to the developing situation, Blinken and Austin renewed their calls for China to leverage its influence with North Korea to curtail its “provocative actions.”
