Last week, Charter Communications donated $3,000 to Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom (WAIC) during an event at the Science Zone in Casper, Oil City News reports.

The event drew local educational leaders, including representatives from the Natrona County School District and Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder, who highlighted the program’s role in diversifying student learning beyond traditional methods.

Degenfelder emphasized the importance of hands-on and work-based learning.

“It’s a really big deal. Programs like this help us move away from a ‘one-size-fits-all’ model,” She said.

WAIC, a nonprofit, aims to integrate agricultural and natural resource education into Wyoming elementary schools. Through its curriculum, WAIC connects students in grades two through five with Wyoming’s primary industries, such as agriculture, energy, and tourism. The program has expanded steadily, with Executive Director Andrew Joannides stating that 206 classrooms statewide now use the curriculum—a record for the organization. Natrona County has led in adoption, with 70 teachers and 66 classrooms implementing the curriculum last year, reaching approximately 1,320 students.

In addition to financial support, Charter Communications donated 10 notebook computers to enhance educational resources for schools. This partnership between Charter, WAIC, and the Science Zone is part of a shared commitment to fostering Wyoming-based learning and educational growth.
