The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team fought New Mexico to a 0-0 draw on Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex, 7220 Sports.com reports.

With the tie, the Cowgirls will need a win in their regular-season finale to remain in contention for a spot in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Wyoming currently holds a record of 4-6-8, including a 2-3-5 conference record, totaling 11 points. New Mexico stands at 7-5-5 overall with a 3-4-3 conference record and 12 points.

“It was a good game, hard fought… Sunday games are always tough, being the second game of the weekend. It was emotional with our seniors playing their last home game, but we did well to keep a clean sheet. As much as you want to score and win, it’s good to get the shutout and see the seniors off on a positive note,” Wyoming head coach Josh Purdum said.

The game remained balanced throughout, as New Mexico led narrowly in shots, 13-10, with both teams registering six shots on target. Wyoming’s goalkeeper, Haley Bartel, tallied six saves, marking her eighth shutout of the season and the ninth of her career. New Mexico’s goalkeeper Callie Droitsch recorded four saves, supplemented by two team saves.

Leading the Wyoming offense, Maddi Chance recorded three shots on goal, while Kiley Ballek contributed with two shots, one of which was on target.

The tie leaves both teams striving for a top-six position to secure a conference tournament berth. Wyoming’s final shot at advancing will require a win against Colorado State on Thursday, along with favorable results from other matches within the league.
