Drivers entering Wyoming will now be greeted by newly designed welcome signs, Cody Enterprise reports.
According to Cody Beers, a spokesman for the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), the state typically updates these signs every eight years, and the previous ones had been in place since 2017.
The new signs are a collaborative effort between the Wyoming Office of Tourism and WYDOT’s office in Cheyenne. Beers emphasized the importance of the signs.
“Tourism is our second-largest industry,” he said.
While the new design has been positively received, one notable change is the absence of Steamboat, the iconic bucking horse that serves as Wyoming’s logo. Beers acknowledged that some people might miss the familiar symbol.
For those interested in owning a piece of Wyoming history, the old blue signs will be auctioned on publicsurplus.com, with past signs fetching up to $10,000.
