Wyoming is one of 10 states impacted by a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of Tuesday evening, 49 cases of illness have been reported, resulting in 10 hospitalizations and one death, with most cases concentrated in Colorado. Wyoming has reported up to three cases.
The CDC described the outbreak as “fast-moving,” with many of those affected having consumed Quarter Pounders. In response, McDonald’s has temporarily stopped selling Quarter Pounders in 12 states, including Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Investigations are focusing on specific ingredients, particularly fresh slivered onions and beef patties, though the exact source of contamination has not yet been identified.
E. coli contamination can lead to severe symptoms, such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, with some cases resulting in kidney complications. The CDC advises anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the affected food to seek medical attention immediately.
