Treasure Trove of Bronze Age Artifacts Found in Poland, Leading to Criminal Investigation
A collection of over 100 Bronze Age artifacts, including weapons, spearheads, necklaces, and shield bosses, has been discovered in northwest Poland, leading to a criminal investigation, CNN reports.
The discovery came to light when photos of the artifacts were shared with the Provincial Heritage Protection Office in Szczecin. An art-theft investigator traced the source of the photos to individuals who revealed that the artifacts had been anonymously left outside a local historical association in Gryfino.
The historical association, recognizing the significance of the find, promptly handed the artifacts over to the Provincial Heritage Protection Office. Authorities have opened a criminal investigation under the “finding treasure without permission” law, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to eight years.
The artifacts, now in the custody of the Provincial Heritage Conservator’s office in Szczecin, are undergoing further evaluation. Their ultimate destination will be determined by the conservator’s office.
The unexpected appearance of this Bronze Age treasure trove has generated excitement among archaeologists and historians.
